Nigerian artiste, Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as Tems, has featured on the soundtrack of Marvel’s new movie, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda forever.’
It was like every other Saturday, people going about their businesses, before a video emerged on the internet.
The content of the video was the trailer of a movie which was said to be a blockbuster, and like every other blockbuster trailer, movie lovers did not hesitate to hit ‘play.’
To their surprise, they heard Tems in the background, doing a cover of Jamaican music god Bob Marley’s ‘No woman no cry.’ It was quite incredible, but Tems’ voice is unique and in no time, the video spread like wildfire all over the internet.
In 2021, Tems got featured on Drake’s Fountains from his Certified Lover Boy album.
Then, not too long ago, Tems got featured by American rapper, Future on a song which he also featured Drake, ‘WAIT FOR U’ off his album, ‘I NEVER LIKED YOU.’
The song peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, America’s biggest music charts platform. This had lovers of Afrobeats in a frenzy as they took to their social media pages to rain praises on Tems.
Moments ago, it was announced that she’ll be featuring on Beyonce’s album and now she’s the spotlight artiste for the new Black Panther movie.
It is not quite the easiest of tasks getting such recognition but Tems has got it. ‘Try Me,’ her 2019 debut single, pushed her directly into the spotlight and since then she has not left.
Bagging awards for her feature in Wizkid’s ‘Essence,’ Tems has gone ahead to be one of the most sought-after artists currently in the music industry.
With Tem’s magnificent run on the International scene, Could her own Grammy be on its way? Lately, she’s been giving bragging rights to lovers of Afrobeats and Nigerians in general and the love for her grows daily.
